Our Small Animal Surgical Service is supported by state-of-the-art operating suites equipped with advanced surgical instrumentation and comprehensive intraoperative diagnostic capabilities. Through our close collaboration with the Emergency Service, we are able to provide timely surgical intervention for urgent and emergent cases during regular business hours. In addition, our strong partnership with the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ensures seamless, high-quality postoperative monitoring and advanced supportive care for patients requiring critical care following surgery.

Our experienced faculty surgeons work alongside interns, skilled veterinary technicians, and senior veterinary students to deliver comprehensive, attentive care. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Before you arrive: You will be contacted prior to your appointment for confirmation and to gather information (history) regarding your pet’s surgical case. A veterinary student, technician, or veterinarian will make all attempts to contact you via phone call during regular business hours. Please bring all medications, lab work, diagnostic images and pertaining records (you may need to request this from your referring veterinarian) for your pet.
Generally, you should withhold food from 12:00am the night before your appointment with the exception of puppies and kittens under 6months of age or on the advice of your referring veterinarian or a member of our team. Water should always be available for your pet.
When you arrive: Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your appointment and check in at the front desk. You will be greeted by a senior veterinary student or faculty member who will evaluate your pet. After a thorough physical examination and consultation with our faculty veterinarian, a plan and estimate will be presented to you. We will aim to answer all your questions and upon your approval and consent, your pet will be admitted to our surgery service.
When will surgery be performed? Surgery is usually performed on the day of admission for routine procedures. Complicated surgical procedures may require surgical planning and additional diagnostics which may delay surgical procedures till the following day.
Who will be involved? Our surgery team involves faculty veterinarians, consulting specialists, interns, technicians, and senior veterinary students. Routine surgical procedures may be performed by veterinary students under the direct supervision of faculty veterinarians while complicated surgical procedures are performed by faculty veterinarians.
What if my pet needs to be hospitalized? If your pet requires hospitalization, which is usually the case for most complicated surgical procedures, you will receive prior notification during your consultation. You will receive frequent updates from our surgery or ICU team at least once daily. You may contact our front desk staff at any time with additional questions or concerns and this will be forwarded to the surgery team.
