Compassionate Care for Your Pet’s Skin, Ears & Allergies

Our Dermatology Service focuses on diagnosing and treating skin, ear, coat, and nail conditions in animals of all sizes—including dogs, cats and horses (limited). We are committed to providing exceptional, compassionate care while helping you understand your pet’s condition and treatment plan.

We regularly see patients referred by veterinarians throughout Alabama, as well as Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi.


What We Treat

We provide advanced diagnostics and treatment for many dermatologic conditions, including:

Allergic Skin Diseases

Environmental, food, and flea allergies can cause itching, hair loss, and skin infections. We help identify triggers and create long‑term management plans.

Auto-immune Skin Disorders

Including conditions such as pemphigus, lupus, vasculitis, and adverse drug reactio

Parasitic Conditions

Such as demodex mange, sarcoptic mange, and other mite or parasite infestations.

Endocrine Diseases Affecting the Skin

Examples include hypothyroidism and Cushing’s disease, both of which may cause skin and coat changes.

Skin Tumors & Cysts

We diagnose and help manage various neoplastic (cancerous) and benign growths such as cutaneous lymphoma, cysts, and hair follicle tumors.

Services We Provide

We offer a full range of veterinary dermatology diagnostics and treatments, including:

  • Comprehensive consultations for skin, ear, coat, nail, and oral lesions
  • Client education so you feel informed and confident about your pet’s care
  • Advanced diagnostic testing for dermatologic and ear conditions
  • Intradermal and serum allergy testing
  • Allergen‑specific immunotherapy (“allergy shots”)
  • State‑of‑the‑art otoscopic and video otoscopy exams
  • Skin and ear cytology to identify infections or inflammation
  • Skin biopsies to diagnose immune‑mediated, neoplastic, fungal, and other diseases
  • Bacterial and fungal cultures of skin and ears
  • Testing and treatment for metabolic, hormonal, and autoimmune conditions
  • Equine consultations, including cases of recurrent airway obstruction related to allergies

What to Expect at Your Visit

Your pet will be examined by a faculty veterinarian with experience in veterinary dermatology along with veterinary students who are trained to assist with dermatology cases.

During the appointment:

  1. History Taking
    Our students gather a detailed history to help us understand your pet’s condition.
  2. Case Review
    The clinician and students discuss the case and create a list of possible diagnoses and recommended diagnostic tests.
  3. Estimate & Approval
    You’ll receive a cost estimate for recommended tests and procedures before we proceed.
  4. Diagnostics
    Depending on your pet’s needs, we may perform:
    • Skin scrapings
    • Cytology (skin or ear)
    • Cultures
    • Biopsies
    • Bloodwork
    • Intradermal skin testing
    • Food elimination trials
    • Endocrine testing
  5. Treatment Plan
    Once diagnostics are complete, we create a personalized treatment plan.
    When possible, medications and treatments are dispensed the same day.
  6. Discharge & Follow‑Up
    You will receive written discharge instructions and a return appointment before leaving the hospital.

How to Schedule a Referral

Patients must be referred by a general practice or emergency veterinarian.
