How to Schedule an Appointment

When scheduling an appointment at the Tuskegee Veterinary Teaching Hospital, please be prepared to provide the following information:

Urgent Appointments

For urgent referrals, please call us directly at 📞 334-727-8436 We will provide a prompt and definite answer regarding same-day availability. Our goal is to avoid delays and ensure timely care.

If you need to discuss a case or request an estimate:

Non-Urgent Referrals

If no immediate discussion is needed: Submit Large and Small Animal Patient Referral  Forms.

For the convenience of our referring veterinarians, both online and email referrals are accepted. Please provide all relevant medical history and patient records so our team has the most up-to-date information.

For the faster submission, please use the online referral portal and upload any relevant lab results and/or radiographs as PDF attachments to tucvmvetcare@tuskegee.edu .

Phone and Email Referral

We will contact your client directly to schedule the appointment and confirm with you via phone. 

Additional Information

  • For non-urgent appointments, we typically reach out to the pet owner directly with scheduling details.
  • In some cases, it may not be in the patient’s best interest to complete all diagnostics or procedures in a single day. This may require overnight hospitalization or a return visit for specific treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I arrive for my scheduled appointment, and what should I bring?

  • Returning clients: Please arrive 15 minutes early.
  • New clients: Please arrive 30 minutes early to complete necessary paperwork.

Arriving early helps us provide timely and thorough care for your animal.

What to bring:

  • Copies of your animal’s medical records, recent test results, and vaccination history
  • Proof of rabies vaccination (required)
  • A list of current medications your animal is taking
  • Videos or pictures of any current medical issue

Safety guidelines:

  • All dogs must be on a leash in the entrance and reception area
  • All cats and small exotic animals must be in a secure carrier

Can my animal eat the day of the appointment?

Yes. Please continue your pet’s regular food, water, and medication schedule unless otherwise instructed. If unsure, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Who will examine my animal?

Your animal will be examined by a faculty veterinarian and senior veterinary students. As a teaching hospital, students participate in all aspects of care under the direct supervision of a licensed faculty veterinarian.

How do I make an appointment? Is a referral required?

Referrals from local veterinarians are welcome but not required. Providing medical records and recent test results helps us better understand your animal’s condition.

What happens if my animal needs to be hospitalized?

If hospitalization is recommended, your animal may be admitted immediately following the appointment. We will inform you in advance whenever possible.

During hospitalization:

  • A senior veterinary student will provide daily updates on your pet’s condition and invoice status
  • You are welcome to visit your pet by arranging a time with a veterinary student or clinician on your pet’s medical team.

River Region Animal Rescue Hosts Vaccine Clinic in Partnership with Tuskegee University’s College of Veterinary Medicine

Thanks to all the participants at this past weekend's Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic hosted by River Region Animal Rescue in partnership with Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine (TUCVM). The Vaccine Clinic was successful on August 8 which was held at the Home Depot parking lot located on Eastern Boulevard in Montgomery, AL. TUCVM's faculty/clinician Dr. Tomeshia Hubbard oversaw the veterinary students assisting with the vaccine clinic.
Per River Region Animal Rescue's press release, the August 8 low- cost vaccine clinic was made possible through a Community Cares grant from the Banfield Foundation and delivered in partnership with Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine.
Over the course of six hours, 20 volunteers, including rescue representatives, veterinarians and veterinary students, provided essential vaccinations and preventative care to more than 150 pets from the River Region. The clinic offered affordable access to core vaccines, tests, and preventatives, helping families keep their pets healthy, protected, and compliant with local requirements.
